Renting Gear for Uhuru Peak

We provide high-quality like new rental gear at reasonable prices. We recommend renting gear whenever possible. In addition to saving money, renting gear will lessen your baggage as sleeping bags, pads and down jackets will probably be the largest items that you will bring to Kilimanjaro.
Please note that although we try to maintain a large supply of rental gear, during our busy months of September-October and January-February, we may run out of down jackets and sleeping bags. So please reserve these items early if you intend to rent them from us.

Down Jackets

Our rental jackets are sturdy (or equivalent). We offer
These jackets in unisex men’s sizes only, Medium to Extra Large sizes. (Size chart)
Medium – Chest 40-42 in, 102-107 cm Waist 32 in, 81 cm
Large – Chest 42-44 in, 107-112 cm, Waist 34 in, 86 cm
X-Large – Chest 44-46 in, 112-117 cm, Waist 36 in, 91 cm

Gear Rentals

Sleeping Bags

Our rental sleeping bags are Mountain Equipment Starlight IV Sleeping Bags or Vango Supernova 5000 Sleeping Bags (or equivalent). These sleeping bags are comfort-limited rated to 8°F (-13°C). They come with cotton liners. We recommend purchasing an additional low-cost fleece sleeping bag liner, which may add an additional 10°F of warmth.

Sleeping Pads

Our rental sleeping pads are made locally. These sleeping bags are over 5cm (2″) thick. They are made from a memory foam-type material and enclosed in a mattress casing. These pads are much more comfortable than any type of blow-up or self-inflatable sleeping pad. The photos below show the sleeping pad inside its case and also the outer casing.
